Playing only his second match for Delhi Capitals, speedster Mitchell Starc registered the second-best bowling figures for the franchise. Only the second DC bowler to pick a five-wicket haul in Indian Premier League history, it’s the first one in Starc’s 144-match T20 career.

32nd bowler to pick five wickets in an IPL innings, Starc is the 23rd pacer. Among overseas players, the left-arm bowler is among the 12 bowlers to have achieved this milestone. With Delhi defeating Sunrisers Hyderabad in Visakhapatnam today, Starc won his third IPL match award within four matches.

Best IPL Bowling Figures For Delhi Capitals Bowlers

5. Amit Mishra (4-0-17-5 vs Deccan Chargers in 2008)

One of the three bowlers (only spinner) to have picked a five-wicket haul in the inaugural season of the cash-rich league, Amit Mishra had done so to contribute in a 12-run victory against Deccan Chargers at the Feroz Shah Kotla (now Arun Jaitley Stadium).

With fellow bowlers conceding at least eight runs per over, Mishra leaking just 17 runs in his four-over spell was definitely the difference between the two teams in a high-scoring clash. The leg-spinner sending back Shahid Afridi and Herschelle Gibbs within seven balls had put the opposition on the back foot.

4. Mitchell Starc (3.4-0-35-5 vs Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2025)

It was in his second over when Starc sent Ishan Kishan and Nitish Kumar Reddy back to the pavilion within a span of three balls. In their attempt to up the ante against a world-class bowler, both the batters ended up gifting their wickets as a high-risk approach didn’t pay off.

What actually paid off was Delhi captain Axar Patel’s decision to persist with Starc for a third over in a row. Starc, in return, picked the wicket of the match by dismissing Travis Head, who was out caught behind by KL Rahul.

In the penultimate over of the match, the 35-year-old player proved too good for Harshal Patel and Wiaan Mulder to not only bundle out the visitors but also complete a personal milestone.

3. Amit Mishra (3-0-11-4 vs Kings XI Punjab in 2016)

Only Capitals bowler with 100+ IPL wickets, Mishra finds himself in this list for the second time for a reason. Eight years after the aforementioned spell, Mishra had picked 3-0-11-4 to play a crucial role in reducing Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) to 111/9 in 20 overs at the Feroz Shah Kotla.

A similarity between both Mishra’s spells is how he was introduced into the attack right after the powerplay. Additionally, he picked a wicket off his first delivery before picking another one in his following over.

Mishra, who started with dismissing Shaun Marsh in the seventh over, counted for David Miller and Glenn Maxwell in the ninth over. Not settling until destroying the opposition, Mishra also sent a well-set Manan Vohra back to the pavilion in his third over.

2. Kuldeep Yadav (3-0-14-4 vs Kolkata Knight Riders in 2022)

Yet another match-winning effort, Kuldeep Yadav had registered career-best bowling figures in the IPL at the Wankhede Stadium three years ago. It was on the second and third deliveries that he bowled that Yadav picked Baba Indrajith and Sunil Narine’s wickets to dent Kolkata Knight Riders.

In his third over, the left-arm bowled picked the priced scalps of Shreyas Iyer and Andre Russell to restrict the opposition to 83/6 in the 14th over. With DC chasing down a 147-run target in 19 overs, Yadav emerged as the obvious choice for the Player of the Match award.

Rajat Bhatia (2.4-0-15-4 vs Deccan Chargers in 2009)

Second-best bowling figures for a Delhi bowler back in the day, gentle medium-pace all-rounder Rajat Bhatia had achieved the feat against Chargers in Durban. Bhatia’s bowling figures of 2.4-0-15-4 was a major reason behind Deccan getting all out for 161 in a 174-run chase.

That Bhatia picked a wicket every four balls was the highlight of the match. Hard-hitting overseas batters Andrew Symonds and Dwayne Smith getting out to the right-arm bowler resulted in a loss for their team.
