The Indian Premier League is arguably among the best T20 leagues in the world. Even legends like Shane Warne, Sachin Tendulkar, Jacques Kallis, and Brett Lee have been a part of this popular league. When the league was introduced, a few of the Indian players went to the teams of their hometowns but a few could not find a place in their home teams.

After 16 seasons of the Indian Premier League, there are some popular cricketing giants who have not played for their home team in 16 long years.

We at OneCricket have found the top five most popular faces who haven't featured for their home franchise and might not even feature for the remainder of their careers.

#5 Dinesh Karthik

Dinesh Karthik is one of those rarest players who have played for the most number of teams in the history of IPL. But if there's a franchise he has not represented so far, it's the Chennai Super Kings. He has featured in 242 games in the span of the last 16 years and scored over 4,500 runs.

Tamil Nadu being his home, he never got to play for Chennai, the reason being MS Dhoni- the long-standing keeper-batter and the leader as well.

So far, DK has featured for six franchises including Mumbai, Punjab and Delhi. He is currently playing for Royal Challengers Bangalore and the upcoming season might be his last one, so he will not be getting a chance to play for CSK.

#4 Harbhajan Singh

The Singh of Punjab, Harbhajan Singh was one of the the prominent figures in the history of the IPL, but he never got to represent his home franchise, Kings XI Punjab now the Punjab Kings.

He has played over 160 IPL games and scalped 150 wickets while playing for three teams throughout his IPL career.

From the inaugural season he played for Mumbai Indians alongside Sachin Tendulkar and at the end of his career, he was released by the MI and then went on to play for Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders but never featured for his home franchise.

#3 Shubman Gill

The captain of the Gujarat Titans and the Prince of the Indian team, Shubman Gill was born and brought up in Punjab. Even though it's too early to say that he would not be playing for his home franchise till the end of his career but considering his capabilities, a team would never release a player like him.

Gill made his IPL debut in 2018 and represented Kolkata Knight Riders in his first season while batting in the middle order.

In the mega auction of the IPL 2022, he was picked from the drafts by the Gujarat Titans and now he will lead GT in the upcoming season of the IPL. IPL 2023 turned out to be one of the best seasons for him as he scored nearly 900 runs in just 17 games.

#2 Jasprit Bumrah

One of the most prominent faces of the current Indian team, Jasprit Bumrah is known for troubling the best batters around the world. Making his IPL debut back in 2013, Bumrah has been one of the foremost bowlers of the IPL and has played for only one franchise so far.

It was the IPL that provided his career a much-needed boost and landed him the Indian team.

He was born and brought up in Gujarat and has played for Mumbai Indians since his debut. It will be surprising if Mumbai Indians leave him in the coming years.

In 120 matches, he scalped 145 wickets and has been the major contributor to Mumbai's success all these years.

#1 Virat Kohli

If there is one greatest player in the history of the Indian Premier League, it's none other than Virat Kohli. The right-hander is the highest run-scorer of the tournament with over 7,200 runs and is the only player to have crossed the 7,000-run mark in the history of IPL.

Virat was born and brought up in the capital city of Delhi but he has played IPL only for Royal Challengers Bangalore, which is nothing but a second home to him.

Kohli himself said that he can't imagine himself playing for some other franchise than RCB. With the amount of love and affection he received from the RCB fans and the franchise, he would not leave the franchise and play for some other team in the IPL.
