Bangladesh’s enduring romance with the fast-paced theatre of T20I cricket has seen its batters occasionally rise to the occasion with flair and fire. Over the years, several individual batting brilliances has carved unforgettable moments for the cricket-crazy country in this electric format.

Among five of the highest individual scores recorded in their T20I chronicles, vintage opener Tamim Iqbal alone features thrice, underscoring his lasting impact at the top. Celebrating Bangladesh’s history in the shortest form of the game, here is a look at five of their highest individual scores.

5. Tamim Iqbal – 83* vs Netherlands, 2016

Prolific Bangladesh opener Tamim Iqbal towered over Netherlands bowlers during their 2016 T20 World Cup tussle in Dharamsala. Batting first and opening the innings with Soumya Sarkar, Iqbal belted six frugal boundaries and three elegant sixes in his unbroken 58-ball knock of 83* runs. His top-scoring act helped Bangladesh cart a competitive 153-7 from 20 overs, before bowlers kept Netherlands down by eight runs to secure a handy win in the opening round of the competition.

Tamim Iqbal was fittingly declared the ‘Player of the Match’ for his efforts.

4. Shakib Al Hasan – 84 vs Sri Lanka, 2012

In what turned out to be Bangladesh’s highest individual score in T20Is at the time, all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan plundered 84 runs from 54 balls against Pakistan in match 12 of the 2012 T20 World Cup in Pallekele, Sri Lanka. The dashing left-hander dispatched Pakistan’s seasoned attack for 11 boundaries and two huge sixes as Bangladesh formed 175-6 from 20 overs upfront.

Unfortunately for Shakib, Bangladesh bowlers failed to complement his batting effort as an Imran Nazir-inspired Pakistani team romped home to an eight-wicket victory with more than an over to spare.

3. Tamim Iqbal – 88* vs West Indies, 2012

In a one-off T20I match against recently-crowned T20 World Cup champions West Indies back in December 2012, Bangladesh opener Tamim Iqbal whacked an attacking 88* from 61 balls in a tall chase of 198 in Mirpur. Smearing 10 boundaries and two huge sixes in the innings, Iqbal forged an unbroken 132-run partnership with number three batter and fellow half-centurion Mahmudullah.

Nonetheless, Bangladesh fell 18 runs short of West Indies’ 197-4, which itself was powered by Marlon Samuels’ blistering 43-ball 85* earlier in the game.

2. Parvez Hossain Emon – 100 vs UAE, 2025

Roughly three years after making his T20I debut, young Bangladesh wicketkeeper-batter Parvez Hossain Emon had his moment under the sun with a flashy century against hosts UAE at the iconic Sharjah Cricket Ground. The left-hander converted his maiden 50-plus score in T20Is into a scintillating ton, thus becoming only the second Bangladeshi cricketer in format history to reach the landmark figure.

Overall, Emon slapped a 53-ball century with five fours and nine huge sixes before falling to Muhammad Jawadullah in the final over off his 54th delivery. His innings boosted Bangladesh up to a match-winning total of 191-7 from 20 overs.

1. Tamim Iqbal – 103* vs Oman, 2016

Mere days after dousing Netherlands in Dharamsala with a match-winning 83*, vintage Bangladesh opener Tamim Iqbal became the first player from his nation to shape a T20I century, doing so against Oman in another first round match of the 2016 T20 World Cup at the same venue. Batting first, Iqbal ransacked Oman’s hapless bowlers with a chanceless 103* from 63 balls, clattering 10 boundaries and five authoritative sixes in the process.

His innings fueled Bangladesh’s monumental 180-2 from 20 overs before bowlers seized a huge 54-run (DLS method) victory. The outcome helped Bangladesh advance into the next round of the 2016 T20 World Cup, a tournament where the legendary opener finished with most runs (295) among all players, surpassing even an all-firing Virat Kohli at the time.
