In a match that will be remembered for its thrilling bowling display, Akhil Dev V etched his name in the Kerala Cricket League 2024 with a remarkable hat-trick, guiding the Calicut Globstars to a six-wicket victory over the Alleppey Ripples in Thiruvananthapuram on Monday.

The 28-year-old right-arm pacer’s three-wicket burst came at a crucial juncture, effectively sealing Alleppey Ripples’ fate in a match that was already slipping out of their grasp.

Akhil’s hat-trick, achieved in the 18th over, was nothing short of poetry in motion. His final figures of 4/20 from just two overs reflect his dominance on the day, but it was his steely nerves in the face of pressure that truly stole the show.

Akhil Dev shines bright with a hattrick to remember

Akhil’s hat-trick came after an initial hiccup in his final over, where he was dispatched for a six on the second ball. Unfazed, he bounced back immediately, triggering a dramatic collapse for the Ripples. First, Alfi Francis was caught brilliantly by Ajinas while attempting to clear the ropes once more.

With newfound confidence, Akhil trapped Fazil Fanoos leg before with an in-swinging yorker that left no room for error. Then, he rattled Vinoop Manoharan’s stumps, completing a perfect hat-trick that left the Ripples reeling.

Akhil’s fiery spell, supported by the Globstars’ disciplined bowling, ensured that the Alleppey Ripples could only muster a paltry 90 runs. The Ripples were left clutching at straws as their middle-order crumbled under pressure.

Despite patient knocks from Akshay T K (34) and Ujwal Krishna (32), who both tried to salvage their innings, the Ripples fell short of making a competitive total. The Globstars’ bowling attack held firm, with Akhil Dev V as the spearhead, ensuring that the Ripples’ hopes of reaching three figures were dashed.

Chasing 91, the Globstars made short work of the target, reaching the total inside 12 overs. Arun K A anchored the chase with an unbeaten 34, while the rest of the lineup provided steady support. With this emphatic win, the Globstars have climbed to second place in the points table, boasting three wins from five outings.

For the Alleppey Ripples, this defeat marks their third straight loss, leaving them rooted to the bottom of the table. It’s now or never for them as they face an uphill task in the remaining matches.
