Mohammad Amaan is leading India in the U19 Asia Cup 2024 and in their second match of the tournament, the right-handed batter has smashed a brilliant century to help his side post a strong total in the first innings against Japan. He played an unbeaten knock of 122 off just 118 balls, taking India to 339 at the end of their 50 overs.
Amaan walked out to bat at number four after India lost Ayush Mhatre in the 11th over of the match. He is known for his steady way of building the innings, and he did exactly that against Japan. He kept the scoreboard ticking by rotating the strike, and made sure that India did not throw away the good start they got by a quickfire 54 off just 29 balls from Ayush Mhatre.
The Indian U19 captain got good support from KP Karthikeya and he scored 57 off 50 balls. He could not convert his start into a hundred just like Ayush Mhatre, but the Indian captain kept going and got to his century with a single in the 46th over. He hit seven fours in his knock, and after a losing start to the tournament, India look set to notch up a win against less-fancied Japan unit.
India lost the toss and their Asian counterparts decided to bowl first on a good batting deck. There were lot of expectations from Vaibhav Suryavanshi, the 13-year-old left-handed batter who was recently bought by RR, but he fell for 23 off 23 balls. Another IPL-bound player in the Indian line-up, Andre Siddarth C scored 35 off 47 balls and the duo would be looking to emulate the heroics of their skipper in the upcoming matches.
