Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians are up against each other at the Chepauk in the third match of IPL 2025, and MI who are known for grooming young players, dished out an unknown spinner, Vignesh Puthur. Vignesh Puthur Stages MI Comeback At Chepauk

The spinner got his first chance to bowl in the eighth over and he delivered straightaway, picking up a big wicket of well-set Ruturaj Gaikwad. He departed on 53 off 26 balls and Shivam Dube along with Deepak Hooda also fell against the left-arm spinner. It seems that MI have unearthed another talent who can go a long way in his career. Let's now learn more about him.

Vignesh Puthur is a left-arm wrist spinner just like Kuldeep Yadav and Noor Ahmed and his action is close to the young Afghan who is playing for CSK, and got four wickets against MI in the first innings. He is from Malappuram in Kerala and was bought for 30 Lakhs in IPL 2025 mega auction.

From Medium Pacer To MI's New Spin Prodigy

Puthur started off as a medium pace bowler but was then asked to bowl leg spin by Kerala player Mohammed Sherif. He is yet to play for Kerala at the senior level though and has played age-group cricket for Kerala. He represented Alleppey Ripples in Kerala Cricket League and also played in TNPL.

He has been previously impressive during his college days and was one of the star bowlers of Kerala College Premier T20 League for St. Thomas College. He represnted Jolly Rovers then, and consistent performances there, has taken him to the higher level.

He has now started his IPL career with a bang, and could be one of the finds of the 2025 edition of the Indian Premier League. Earlier, the five-time IPL champions also had a debutant in the form of Robin Minz in their line-up against CSK, but he failed to deliver.
