Mumbai Indians had a topsy-turvy start to their IPL 2025 campaign against arch-rivals Chennai Super Kings. After winning the toss and opting to field first, the Super Kings restricted MI to a modest total of 155 runs in 20 overs.
Why Is Rohit Sharma Not Fielding vs CSK?
After MI's innings finished, Rachin Ravindra and Rahul Tripathi came out to open the batting for CSK during the run chase. However, in an interesting development, former MI captain Rohit Sharma didn't come to field in the second innings.
Rohit had a forgettable start to his IPL 2025 campaign, as Khaleel Ahmed dismissed him for a duck in the first over. However, as Rohit was absent in the second half, fans became curious to know if he had developed an injury.
However, it's worth mentioning that MI replaced Rohit with their impact player, Vignesh Puthur, for the second innings. So, Rohit is actually not injured, but has been replaced by the spinner who will be in action during CSK's run chase.
Vignesh is a promising spinner and can capitalise on Chennai's spin-friendly surface against Mumbai Indians.
CSK Off To A Cautious Start vs MI
Meanwhile, Rachin Ravindra and Rahul Tripathi have ensured a cautious start for CSK in their opening encounter vs MI. As of writing, the five-time champions were 11 for no loss in 1.3 overs, with Ravindra and Tripathi batting on 8* and 2*, respectively.
