Mumbai Indians made a notable change to their playing XI as Rohit Sharma was ruled out due to a knee injury. In his place, young all-rounder Raj Angad Bawa came in and here’s all you need to know about him.
MI, fresh off a victory against KKR, locked horns with LSG in the 16th match of the IPL 2025 season. However, during the toss, captain Hardik Pandya made an unprecedented exclusion from the playing XI.
Former skipper Rohit Sharma was left out of the side because of a knee injury and young all-rounder Raj Angad Bawa was declared his replacement, making his debut for MI.
Who Is Raj Angad Bawa?
Raj Bawa is a 22-year-old all-rounder who is known for his rare skillset. He is a left-handed batter and a right-arm medium pacer, making him a handy all-rounder.
He initially became famous in the U19 World Cup 2022, when he played a match-winning inning in the final against Australia. In that game, he picked up a stunning 5-wicket-haul and also contributed 35 valuable runs, helping India lift their fifth U19 World Cup title. He remains the only Indian to have taken a 5-fer in an ICC final.
Bawa has represented Chandigarh in the domestic circuit. In 11 first-class games, he has scored 633 runs, including a century, and taken 13 wickets.
He made his IPL debut with Punjab Kings in 2022 and was part of their squad in 2023 but did not play any matches that season. He was picked up by Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2025 mega auction for INR 30 Lakh.
Interestingly, Raj Angad Bawa comes from a family with a rich sporting history. His grandfather Tarlochan Bawa was an Olympic gold medalist in hockey. His dad is also a renowned coach who apparently unearthed the talent of Yuvraj Singh.
