On Friday, August 8, Pakistan Cricket dealt a major blow as their 24-year-old budding cricketer Haider Ali was arrested by UK police on charges of rape. The incident occurred during Pakistan Shaheen's tour of England.
Notably, the police received a complaint on Monday, August 4, 2025. " We have arrested a 24-year-old man. It's alleged that the incident occurred on Wednesday, 23 July 2025 at a premises in Manchester,” the police statement read.
The police have released Haider Ali on bail, but the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) have released the 24-year-old from the squad. Meanwhile, this article will look at Ali's journey.
Who Is Haider Ali?
The 24-year-old rose to fame during the 2020 Pakistan Super League (PSL), where Ali represented Peshawar Zalmi. With a fifty in the 2020 edition, Ali became the youngest to score a half-century in the PSL.
It helped him earn a Pakistan call-up and made his T20I debut in September 2020 against England. Soon, Ali made his ODI debut in the same year.
Ali was part of Pakistan's T20I set-up for 35 matches before falling out of the scheme of things. In his short career, Haider scored 505 T20I runs, averaging just 17.47. Ali failed to score a solitary century and only had three fifties to his name.
Further, it is not the first time that Haider Ali has found himself in a controversy, as he landed in hot water during the 2021 Pakistan tour to the West Indies and England, where he was found guilty of breaching COVID-19 protocols during the Pakistan Super League and was left out of the squad.
Following the incident, Ali was drafted into the Pakistan Shaheen side and since then, he has been trying to get into the national side. Meanwhile, the recent incident too occurred during Pakistan Shaheen's tour to England.
