What Do MI Need?
Mumbai’s strength lies in sticking with the captain and a chief all-rounder of the Indian cricket team. In Harmanpreet Kaur and Pooja Vastrakar, they comprise two names who are guaranteed to be part of an all-time Indian T20I Playing XI.
Additionally, the presence of as many as four overseas all-rounders provides a shot in the arm. Mainly participating in this auction to plug in rare holes and buy reserve players, expect them to keep up with their knack of executing big-ticket purchases even with a limited purse.
Players MI Should Target During WPL 2025 Auction
Deandra Dottin
Indians could do a Melbourne Renegades by bringing West Indies all-rounders Hayley Matthews and Deandra Dottin under one roof. For those who don’t know, the duo played instrumental roles in powering the franchise to its maiden Women’s Big Bash League title earlier this month.
Having played similar roles in guiding West Indies to a maiden ICC Women’s World T20 title in 2016, Matthews and Dottin know a thing or two about winning championships together. Other than her 16 years of experience of playing international cricket, what the 33-year-old player would also tick is the franchise’s need for a hard-hitting finisher.
Nadine de Klerk
Assuming they’re not able to snap Dottin, expect MI to go all guns blazing for South Africa all-rounder Nadine de Klerk. A primary reason for the same is the similitude as far as their primary skills are concerned. Although not as experienced as Dottin, this 24-year-old player has participated in over 100 international matches across formats and could be an investment for the future.
S Yashasri
Speaking of looking at the future, Mumbai shouldn’t mind grooming an uncapped Indian pacer in the forthcoming season. Having played a lone WPL match for UP Warriorz in the inaugural season, this 21-year-old right-arm pacer has since gained experience on the back of touring South Africa and Australia for India Women U-19 and India A Women respectively.
