Farhan Ahmed, the 17-year-old younger brother of England cricketer Rehan Ahmed, made headlines by becoming the first player to take a hat-trick for Nottinghamshire in T20 cricket. Playing in the Vitality Blast match against Lancashire, Farhan bowled an incredible spell and finished with 5 wickets for just 25 runs. His outstanding performance helped Nottinghamshire secure a dramatic four-wicket win at Trent Bridge.

Who Is Farhan Ahmed?

Farhan is a right-arm off-break bowler who has been turning heads in the English cricket circuit. He was named in England’s Under-19 World Cup squad at just 15 years old, showing early signs of his immense potential.

This wasn’t Farhan’s first time making history. He had already become the youngest ever player to appear in first-class cricket for Nottinghamshire. In his debut match, he took an impressive 7 wickets in a single innings. He then went on to become the youngest player in England’s first-class history to take 10 wickets in a match, a remarkable milestone for someone so early in their career.

He also represented England in the 2024 Under-19 World Cup, proving himself on the international youth stage.

In their final group stage game, Lancashire had already qualified for the next round and played with less pressure. Nottinghamshire, however, needed a big win. Lancashire started well with Phil Salt and Keaton Jennings adding 38 runs. But Liam Patterson-White broke that opening stand. Farhan then stepped in and took charge, using the pitch conditions to his advantage.

He first got Chris Green out and then returned in the final over to deliver a stunning hat-trick. On the fourth ball of the 20th over, Farhan dismissed Luke Wood, followed it up with Tom Aspinwall, and then bowled Mitchell Stanley to complete the historic hat-trick. Lancashire was bowled out for 126.

Chasing 127, Nottinghamshire got off to a terrible start, losing four wickets in the first three overs, mainly due to some brilliant bowling by Tom Hartley. But Tom Moores, in top form this season, rescued the team with an aggressive 75 runs knock. He built a crucial partnership of 81 runs with Lyndon James, which put Notts back on track.

Moores and Daniel Sams stayed calm and guided the team home, despite losing James. Moores was run out when the scores were level, but the team completed the win on the next ball and won by four wickets against the pace attack.
