Farhan Ahmed sets T20 Blast ablaze [Source: @PCA/X.com]
Farhan Ahmed, just 17 years old, created history on Friday by becoming the first player to take a hat-trick for Nottinghamshire in T20 cricket. He achieved this incredible feat during a Vitality Blast match against Lancashire, where he also finished with five wickets, helping his team to a four-wicket victory.
Interestingly, Farhan is the younger brother of England’s rising star spinner Rehan Ahmed. He played in the 2024 U19 World Cup and had already made headlines last year when he became the youngest first-class cricketer for Nottinghamshire.
On his debut, he had taken 7 wickets for 140 runs and later became the youngest player in British first-class cricket to take 10 wickets in a match.
Farhan Ahmed Shines Bright With Startling Performance In T20 Blast
In the latest T20 blast match against Lancashire, Farhan Ahmed came up with an excellent spell, ending on 5 wickets for 25 runs in 5 overs.
His hat-trick was achieved in the last over, when he got rid of Luke Wood, Tom Aspinwall, and Mitchell Stanley in successive deliveries. Earlier, he had also removed Chris Green, one of Lancashire’s key batters.
Thanks to Farhan’s bowling, Lancashire was bowled out for just 126 runs. Though Lancashire started decently with Phil Salt and Keaton Jennings adding 38 runs, they quickly collapsed to 53/5. A brief 63-run partnership between Matty Hurst and Chris Green followed, but once that was broken, the team couldn’t recover.
Nottinghamshire’s chase wasn’t easy either. They were struggling at 14/4 in just the third over. However, Lyndon James and Tom Moores rescued the innings with an 81-run stand for the fifth wicket. After James got out, Moores and Daniel Sams calmly guided Nottinghamshire to victory in the 16th over.
