Virat Kohli and his batting brilliance lies in the reverence of his wicket. His dismissal, a coveted triumph for opponents, attests to his stature. Kohli’s relentless resolve and skillful play not only commands respect but also draws thunderous cheers when conquered, which itself is a testament to the esteem opponents hold for his mere presence at the crease.

As one can expect, the fielding teams can sometimes cross the traditional lines of celebration after claiming his wicket. One of such incidents occurred back in December 2022, when a jubilant Bangladesh unit celebrated Kohli’s downfall with much fervor, momentarily breaching the customary decorum of sportsmanship.

The over-the-top celebration ended up irking Kohli, who in return had an exchange of words with several Bangladeshi players and then-captain Shakib Al Hasan.

When Virat Kohli had a heated exchange with Bangladesh

Back in December 2022, Team India toured Bangladesh for three ODIs and two Test matches. After losing the ODIs, the Indians took a 1-0 lead in the Test series by winning the opening match with a 188-run margin.

Under KL Rahul’s leadership, the visiting Indian side were left to chase down 145 in the subsequent Test at Mirpur to seal the series 2-0. As it turned out, the visitors were rocked early in their run-chase, slumping to 29-3 within the opening hour of the innings.

Moreover, India also lost Virat Kohli a while later, courtesy of a vicious turn from off-spinner Mehidy Hasan Miraz. His dismissal sparked a wild celebration among Bangladesh fielders, which seemingly annoyed the outgoing batsman.

Kohli later had an exchange of words with Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan before eventually making his way out of the field.

Virat Kohli’s dismissal led to three more wickets in the innings as India slipped and fell their way to 74-7 by the following morning. Fortunately for the visitors, middle-order batters Shreyas Iyer and Ravichandran Ashwin survived a testing hour of play to take India home on Day 4.
