On May 28, 2011, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) triumphed over the Royal Challengers Bangalore (Royal Challengers Bengaluru now) to secure their second consecutive Indian Premier League (IPL) title.

In the final at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, CSK delivered a dominating performance and won by 58 runs.

Batting first after winning the toss, CSK made the most of their home advantage. Openers Michael Hussey and Murali Vijay put on a spectacular display, amassing a formidable partnership of 159 runs in just 14.5 overs.

Hussey scored a solid 63 off 45 balls, while Vijay's explosive 95 off 52 deliveries earned him the Player of the Match award. CSK posted a massive total of 205 for the loss of five wickets.

RCB, led by Daniel Vettori, faced an uphill battle chasing the daunting target. Their hopes were quickly dashed when star batter Chris Gayle, who had been instrumental in their journey to the final, was dismissed for a duck by Ravichandran Ashwin in the first over. Ashwin continued to wreak havoc, claiming the wicket of Mayank Agarwal shortly after.

Despite brief resistance from AB de Villiers and Virat Kohli, RCB struggled to maintain momentum. De Villiers fell for 18, trapped LBW by Shadab Jakati, who also dismissed Luke Pomersbach for 2. Kohli, who managed a fighting 35, was eventually taken out by Suresh Raina.

With over 140 runs needed in the final ten overs, the RCB lower order could not handle the pressure. Saurabh Tiwary's unbeaten 42 and Zaheer Khan's 21 provided some late resistance, but it was too little. RCB finished their innings at 147, falling 58 runs short of the target.

This victory marked a historic moment for CSK, as they became the first team to defend the IPL title successfully.

Murali Vijay was awarded 'Player of the Match' for his match-winning innings, which included four boundaries and six sixes.

It was the first time a team defended their title in the tournament's history. In 2020, Mumbai Indians became the second team to accomplish this rare achievement.
