Whisper the word 'Thala' in any CSK fan's ears and see the goosebumps on their arms along with a bright smile on their face that is enough to make someone wonder 'Who this man is' and 'how special he is'?

Way back in 2008, during the inaugural auction of what became one of the most sought tournaments 'Indian Premier League', just a single person from the entire pool of players received bids from all respective eight teams present in the room, and to date, the record remains un-shattered. The name is 'Mahendra Singh Dhoni' and they call him 'Thala' meaning Boss in Tamil.

You can call it a coincidence or destiny but the man became synonymous with the word 'Super Kings' or rather I say the 'Chennai Super Kings'.

And I can tell you it was no coincidence, it was fate that yellow, the iconic yellow will be the colour that could make anyone feel pride in the roaring CSK logo.

Dhoni didn't give anything for CSK, he gave his everything. Just like a fan, he would wait for those two months- April and May to showcase why it mattered to him in yellow.

Right from the very beginning, he was attached to his franchise unlike many of those players. So much so, that his emotions came out when Chennai were coming out of the ban. The man known for never displaying his emotions on or off the field, choked. And this was so heartbreaking that a million others felt it.

There's a very simple reason why he became Thala, it wasn't for his powerful batting or his shrewd wicket-keeping, it was because of his extra-ordinary captaincy skills and the result was there to see for everyone, nine finals in thirteen seasons in no joke.

Dhoni - "Finishes off in Style"

Dhoni was CSK's biggest asset with the bat too, the finishing skills never went unnoticed. Not once or twice but the Ranchi-boy finished matches in the final over on an uncountable number of occasions. This was just why the fans trusted Thala to deliver every time during crunch situations. Last Over finishes are just the perfect endings for a fan from the yellow army.

Changing the definition of wicket-keeping, the man took the responsibility behind the stumps to fool the batters with his antics. With the quickest hands, without doubt, the man spared no one.

Once a wise man said, 'CSK is Dhoni and Dhoni is CSK' and he ain't wrong because this man bleeds yellow just like every other person whistling from their den.
