Indian speed demon Jasprit Bumrah can ruffle up the best of batting ensembles on his heyday. While the cricketer made his Test debut in January 2018, it did not take him long to become one of the leading exponents of his team’s starting XI, especially for overseas Test tours.

Back in September 2021, when Team India travelled to England for a five-match series, Bumrah turned the London Test between the two sides on its head with a mesmerizing spell of hostile fast bowling. At one stage of his spell during the nail-biting final day of the match, Bumrah sent down searing yorkers to dismiss Ollie Pope and Jonny Bairstow in quick succession to signal India’s remarkable fightback after a defiant opening stand by the hosts.

When Jasprit Bumrah yorked Jonny Bairstow

Back in September 2021 during the fourth Test of the five-match series at The Oval, hosts England battled for a draw on the final day as they decided to relinquish their 368-run pursuit after early dismissals. At a time when the hosts gained some stability at 141-2, Indian spinner Ravindra Jadeja removed a well-set Haseeb Hameed for 63.

Emboldened by Jadeja’s timely attack over the Englishmen, Jasprit Bumrah sniffed blood and ruffled them up with successive wickets off his own. The cricketer removed Ollie Pope and Jonny Bairstow in the space of just five deliveries, as England began staring at a possible defeat at 146-5.

Moreover, the delivery Bumrah unleashed to unsettle Bairstow was a stroke of artistic brilliance. Sending down a searing yorker, the speedster’s pacey inswinger burst through Bairstow’s static feet to rattle the stumps.

Jasprit Bumrah eventually finished with figures of 2-27 from his 22 overs in the innings. Shardul Thakur, Ravindra Jadeja and Bumrah’s new-ball pace mate Umesh Yadav also chipped in with wickets to fold up England for just 210.

Team India ended up winning the contest by 157 runs to take a 2-1 lead in their then-five match series.
