Indian cricket stalwarts Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are in line to feature in the upcoming Duleep Trophy 2024 season. While there is no official confirmation on the development yet, their presence in the Duleep Trophy will mark their respective returns to India’s domestic structure after a long gap.

The two players will also likely feature in the upcoming tournament in a bid to prepare themselves for India’s hectic Test schedule, which features series against Bangladesh, New Zealand and Australia later this year.

Here at OneCricket, we take a look back at the last time when both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli took part in domestic cricket.

The last time when Rohit and Kohli played domestic cricket

Indian Test captain Rohit Sharma played the 2015 Ranji Trophy season in India. The following year in 2016, the legendary opening batter also played a first-class match for Mumbai and the visiting New Zealand team. Overall, Sharma’s last appearance in Indian domestic cricket remains the 2016-17 Duleep Trophy season for India Blue.

Meanwhile, Virat Kohli last played mainstream domestic cricket in India back in 2012. Turning up in Ghaziabad for Delhi in November 2012 for a Group B match against Uttar Pradesh, the cricketer scored 57 runs combined across both innings.

As of now, both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will soon be expected to return to India’s Test lore for a home series against Bangladesh. With two more series lined-up against New Zealand (home) and Australia (away), it is imperative for the two batting behemoths to rekindle their red-ball skillsets against the backdrop of T20 overdose.
