On this day, exactly one year ago, Indian pacer, Jasprit Bumrah, who is renowned for his extraordinary ability to bamboozle batsmen, showcased an unexpected facet of his cricketing prowess as he rewrote the record books with a breathtaking assault on England's Stuart Broad.

Jasprit Bumrah's batting blitz left Stuart Broad reeling

Leading the Indian team as a stand-in captain, Bumrah's extraordinary batting display during the match against England left spectators in awe as he displayed a masterclass in power hitting by scoring an astonishing 29 runs exclusively from his willow.

This achievement shattered the previous record of 28 runs scored in a single over, a feat that had been accomplished merely thrice in the illustrious 145-year history of Test cricket. Prior to Bumrah's heroics, West Indies legend Brian Lara, Australia's George Bailey, and South Africa's Keshav Maharaj held joint ownership of this coveted record.

The relentless onslaught from the 29-year-old meant that Broad, a seasoned campaigner himself ended up conceding a staggering 35 runs in that historic over. The over comprised two colossal sixes, one of which was struck off a no-ball, accompanied by four sublime boundaries, a solitary single, and five wides.

However, despite Bumrah's magnificent display, fate did not smile upon the Indian team in that game as they suffered a seven-wicket defeat in this rescheduled match against England.

Nevertheless, the series ended on an exhilarating note with both teams sharing the spoils as they concluded the contest with a 2-2 draw. In recognition of his exceptional performances throughout the five-match series, Bumrah was deservedly honoured with the ‘Player of the Series’ award for grabbing 23 wickets.

The Indian speedster’s record-breaking batting display against Broad in that Test match was applauded by the cricketing fraternity. However, the unfolding events during that historic over must have brought back heart-rendering memories for the veteran speedster, who had experienced a similar tribulation at the hands of an Indian batsman in the past.

It was during the 2007 T20 World Cup that Yuvraj Singh ruthlessly dispatched Broad for six consecutive sixes in a single over. As Bumrah's record-breaking onslaught unfolded, one couldn't help but imagine the memory of that brutal mauling reappearing in Broad's mind which is an attestation to the game’s fickle nature.
