Virat Kohli with AB de Villiers in IPL (x.com)
AB de Villiers has consistently acknowledged his close friendship with fellow Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) teammate Virat Kohli. The two cricketers shared the same dressing room at the RCB camp for 11 IPL seasons until the former South African captain announced his retirement from franchise cricket in 2021.
Despite de Villiersâ exit, both batting legends seemingly continue to share mutual respect and admiration for one another, considering none of the two leave out an opportunity to praise the other whenever they are engaged in a casual debate or media interaction.
Citing just one of the many examples, an old AB de Villiers interview recently went viral on social media, where the Proteas legend can be seen admitting that it has gotten to a point where he would be even scared to ask anything from his fellow RCB zealot.
AB de Villiers says Virat Kohli looks after everyone
AB de Villiers once revealed that he sometimes felt scared of even asking anything from Virat Kohli, because the Indian batting maverick would instantly fulfil his demand. He cited a few examples from their playing days together with RCB, claiming that he once merely praised Kohliâs shoes, and he ended up receiving a similar pair a while later.
AB de Villiers also recalled how Kohli gifted him his own power bank at the time of need, and arranged an Expresso Machine from Indian Amazon simply because he once said he likes coffee in front of his Indian-based RCB teammate.
âI am scared of saying anything to him now. If I say like âoh I like your shoesâ, the next minute he organises me that shoes. Iâm like âVirat, just stop itâ. He looks after everyone.â
âI was like âOh! My phone is flat again.â Kohli says âOh, you need a power bank, there you go.â Now its mine. Itâs ridiculous man. I told him I like coffee the other day. Now Iâm getting an Expresso Machine. He ordered it on Amazon. Itâs being delivered tomorrow.â
AB de Villiers and Virat Kohli shared many memorable match-winning partnerships for RCB during their playing days together. While the South African legend has opted himself out of the playing field, Kohli continues to don RCBâs jersey in IPL as one of the senior members of the side.
