Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin doused Australia’s famed batting line-up with a three-fer in Indore’s Holkar Stadium. Accounting for the wickets of Marnus Labuschagne, David Warner and Josh Inglis in a space of just seven deliveries, Australia’s run-chase response slumped to 101-5 by the end of the 15th over of the innings.

Ashwin received much assistance from his spin mate Ravindra Jadeja, who also picked up three to dust out the Australians for just 217, thus scripting a 99-run series-clinching win for the Indian team.

Remarkably, the 37-year-old all-rounder also scaled an all-time Indian record through the course of his impeccable spell at a high-scoring venue.

Ashwin climbs to the top among Indians against Australia

Ravichandran Ashwin, who made his international debut back in 2010, has played 22 Tests, 17 ODIs and nine T20I matches against Australia so far in his career. In his combined 48 appearances against them, the legendary spinner has claimed 144 wickets at an impressive average of just 30.21.

Notably, Ashwin’s three-fer in Indore took him past all-time spin legend Anil Kumble (142) in terms of Indians with most international wickets against Australia. Harbhajan Singh stands third on the elite list with 129 scalps while former captain Kapil Dev continues to remain India’s most successful fast bowler in all-format Australia matches.

Ravichandran Ashwin can further enhance his record against Australia in the upcoming third ODI in Rajkot on September 27. Moreover, the two sides will also come into collision in next month’s 2023 World Cup.
