Virat Kohli is the legend of the game, and has lived upto the hype he created after his exploits in the age-group cricket. Under Virat Kohli, India won the U-19 World Cup in 2008 and the youngman who was rated very highly, got his senior international cap in the same year, when he made his ODI debut against Sri Lanka on August 18 at Dambulla.

Virat Kohli's Debut Match Scorecard

The King, as Virat is fondly known now, had to open the innings on his debut with Virender Sehwag, the regular opener injured. He had the current Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir alongside him and India batted first on deck that was bit helpful for the bowlers.

Gambhir departed on a two-ball duck, but Virat Kohli showed resilience upfront. He batted cautiously after the loss of early wicket, but in the 8th over, Nuwan Kulasekara trapped him infront and the young Virat Kohli was adjudged LBW in his debut international match. 

Virat Kohli scored 12 (22) and spent good 33 minutes on the pitch in testing conditions.

After Virat's wicket, India kept losing other batters at regular intervals and eventually were bowled out for just 146 and Sri Lanka managed to win the game by eight wickets, chasing down the target in 35th over.

Virat Kohli was just 19 years old when he made his international debut and after the failure in his debut game, he eventually got into his groove and scored his first international century against Sri Lanka in 2009. He has gone from strength to strength from thereon and is now one of the finest batters to ever play the game.
