The Indian chase master Virat Kohli has mounted countless assaults on bowlers throughout his long illustrious international career. When he settles into his gear, no high-quality bowler can get anywhere close to crossing swords with him. But the West Indian bowling all-rounder Kesrick Williams made the grave mistake of getting under the skin of the batting giant way back in the 2017 T20I series in Jamaica. Upon his dismissal, Kesrick gave Kohli an animated ‘notebook celebration’ sendoff.

The memories of that infamous send-off lived on for Kohli as India hosted West Indies for a three-match T20I series in December 2019. West Indies posted a massive target of 208 runs on the board thanks to some belligerent hitting from Evin Levis, Kieron Pollard, and Jason Holder down the order.

In a high-octane 208-run chase, Rohit Sharma fell for 8 in the 4th over itself. Virat walked out to bat and experienced a shaky start to his blistering innings as he failed to execute his shots a couple of times. But as his innings gathered momentum, Kohli punished the West Indian bowlers ruthlessly and especially targeted Williams, clobbering him to all parts. He eventually finished with an unbeaten 94* (50) and took India home quite comfortably in the end by 6 wickets and 8 balls to spare.

In the 16th over of India's innings, Virat Kohli smashed Kesrick Williams for a six and went on to replicate the bowler's renowned notebook celebration. Kohli cleverly utilized his bat as a makeshift notebook, symbolically "ticking" Williams' name off.

Following the conclusion of the match, the duo put a momentary end to the ‘notebook’ saga by giving each other a high-five.
