December 13 will forever be special to Indian and cricket fans, as opener Rohit Sharma became the first batter to register three One-Day Internationals (ODI) double centuries on this very day in 2017.

Interestingly, December 13 also happens to be the marriage anniversary of Sharma, who got hitched with Ritika Sajdeh in 2015.

Sharma in 2017, had been in phenomenal form, having struck five ODI hundreds already, and including a 147 days prior to the eventful ODI against Sri Lanka at Mohali on December 13.

Named Captain, Sharma and Co. lost the first ODI and looked to stay alive in the competition heading into the second encounter.

Asked to bat, Sharma came out with clear intent and did not wait for the Lankan bowlers to settle in. With Shikhar Dhawan going all guns blazing, Sharma put on the breaks and started to build his innings, reaching his fifty in 65 balls.

Shreyas Iyer along with Sharma batted with intent and displayed exquisite batting during their mammoth 213-run stand.

Sharma in an unlikely fashion reached his 100 in 115 balls, however, once Iyer's wicket fell, the former unleashed an onslaught against Lankan bowlers.  Having tasted two double-centuries already, Sharma knew how to get things going and went into fifth gear, reaching 100 to 150 in just 18 balls.

Sharma broke all bounds and engulfed a jam-packed Mohali stadium with his mesmerising shots, reaching the landmark figure of 200 in 151 balls, which included 13 fours and 11 monstrous sixes.

Sharma apart from his customary celebration, also kissed his wedding ring, while gesturing towards his wife, who was present in the gallery.

The Indian captain remained unbeaten on 208* from 153 balls, helping India score 392. Sri Lanka despite Angelo Mathews' best efforts, went to lose the match by 141 runs.
