In a significant shift in KL Rahul's cricketing journey, the versatile player has embarked on a transformative phase as he leads the Indian cricket team in South Africa.

As Rahul will don the captain's hat in the three ODIs and features in two Tests against South Africa, insiders suggest a crucial role change – Rahul might not only handle the gloves in ODIs but also take up wicketkeeping duties in Tests.

Despite competition from Ishan Kishan, sources reveal Rahul as the preferred choice for the wicketkeeping role, a position he has already been handling in ODIs.

Middle-order aspirations

Rahul's evolution doesn't stop at wicketkeeping; he is actively working on establishing himself as a middle-order batter across formats. This strategic move is evident not only in the upcoming Tests but also in the Indian Premier League 2024 (IPL 2024), where he traditionally opened but is expected to shift to the middle order for the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG).

IPL transition and new role considerations

For the LSG, Rahul is contemplating a switch from his traditional opening role to contribute effectively in the middle order. The team's lineup boasts top-order batters like Quinton de Kock, Kyle Mayers, and Devdutt Padikkal.

As the Karnataka batter eyes the IPL 2024 season, fans can anticipate witnessing a different facet of his gameplay. He is evaluating the possibility of making a meaningful impact in the middle order, showcasing his adaptability and versatility.
