Former Pakistan batter Umar Akmal has revealed an interesting incident involving legendary Indian cricketers MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli.

Speaking on a Pakistani TV show, Akmal disclosed an unheard story when legendary Indian captain MS Dhoni threatened to leave the Pakistan series to back an out-of-form Kohli.

As Akmal put it, the then Indian team manager entered MS Dhoni's room and asked him to drop Virat Kohli from the playing XI for the final ODI of the three-match series against Pakistan in 2012-13.

Notably, Kohli endured failures in the first two games of the series, being dismissed by Junaid Khan for 0 and 6 in Chennai and Kolkata, respectively.

Considering his poor form, the management apparently urged Dhoni to drop him from the last ODI in Delhi.

However, Dhoni decided otherwise, backing Kohli and threatening to leave the tour if the Delhi batter was dropped.

As Akmal said, Dhoni told the manager to book his ticket along with Kohli's, asking him to make Suresh Raina the captain for the remaining matches.

Dhoni and Kohli share a great bond off the field, having played a lot of cricket together. Kohli, one of Dhoni's most trusted weapons, eventually succeeded him as the Indian captain across formats before Rohit Sharma took over the reins.
