David Miller wore a "sad" outlook on his face as he responded to the shocking development of Gujarat Titans (GT) skipper Hardik Pandya moving back to his old franchise Mumbai Indians (MI) ahead of the next edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Pandya triggered a shockwave in world cricket by confirming the reports which had pre-announced his return to the MI set-up despite enjoying two successful years as a captain and player for the Titans.

Under his leadership, the premier India allrounder took the new Ahmedabad-based franchise to the coveted trophy at the 2022 edition and oversaw their run to the finals of the 2023 iteration of the marquee T20 league.

When Miller Spoke On Pandya's MI Return

Having spoken at length about forming a great relationship and commitment towards the Titans and their playing culture, Pandya was anticipated to crush the rumours about his MI comeback. Instead, the player put a stamp of approval on them in a surprising one-way trade back to his old franchise.

One of the players left in disbelief about the whole fiasco was South African middle-order giant Miller, who had forged a solid working relationship with the skipper and said it's not the most pleasant development to wake up to ahead of the next season.

"Haven’t followed too much to be honest. He’s obviously moved to Mumbai, it’s not up to me. He’s an unbelievable player and captain," Miller told RevSportz on December 1.

"So, obviously sad to not see him this year. That’s how IPL works, you build up relationships over couple of years and then you move to a different team. That’s the nature of the game," he added.

Pandya's comeback to MI once again laid bare the finance-driven nature of the IPL as the Mumbai franchise is understood to have paid INR 15 crores and an undisclosed transfer fee to the Titans to bag his services again.

It seems the discussion between the player and the franchise also involved a captaincy switch since they also announced him as their new skipper on Friday (December 15) in another major development, sacking their most successful captain Rohit Sharma.
