India To Get Whitewashed In SA? Cape Town Stats Suggest An Incoming Nightmare

The Indian cricket team will ring in this year’s New Year celebration in Cape Town, South Africa, as the unit is currently touring the Rainbow Nation for an extended bilateral series.

Having said that, the visitors faced a steep challenge in the first test match held in Centurion earlier this week. South Africa outplayed India in every department to clinch victory in a one-sided contest.

India lost by an inning and 32 runs in the first test of the two-game series. That being said, the second and final game of the pivotal series is scheduled in the heart of South Africa, Cape Town.

The visitors are expected to fly down to Cape Town later today to prepare for the do-or-die game. With the series win out of the picture, the Men In Blue’s pride is at stake.

India To Lose 0-2 To South Africa?

However, Cape Town’s Newlands Cricket Ground’s stats aren’t too promising. Newlands Cricket Ground has been a fortress for the South African team, and historical statistics reveal the difficulty visiting teams encounter at this venue. The conditions, with the iconic Table Mountain in the backdrop, offer swing and seam movement for fast bowlers, making it a daunting prospect for batters.

Interestingly, the Indian’s side stats seem much worse. In its past six encounters in Cape Town, India has lost four test matches, produced a stalemate in two games, and sadly has won none.

Historically, very few visiting teams have managed to emerge victorious in Test matches at Cape Town. However, the men in blue, despite being one of the strongest test-playing nations, have failed to emerge victorious at Newlands Cricket Ground.

If history repeats itself, India will get whitewashed by the Proteas in the two-game test series. Needless to say, Rohit Sharma and Co. will strive to avoid this humiliation at all costs. But as of now, the visitors’ backs are against the wall, and the odds of victory remain sublime.
