Vijay Shankar turned his critics into his biggest fans with one of the best counter-attacking knocks in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023.

In a classic run-chase against the Kolkata Knight Riders, Shankar showed his finishing prowess and took GT past the winning line with utmost ease. The defending champions needed 180 to seal the win, but they were in a tricky situation with the fall of quick wickets in the middle overs.

Shankar joined hands with David Miller as the duo finished the job with 13 balls to spare. The right-handed batter slammed a quick-fire counter-attacking 51 off 24 balls and turned out to be the hero of the match.

Vijay Shankar was bought for INR 1.4 crore in the IPL 2022 auction. At that time, many pundits lambasted GT for spending that much money on him. But the 32-year-old proved his doubters wrong and played some crucial cameos last year.

In this season, he smashed a scintillating fifty against KKR on April 9. He continued the love-affair with KKR in match 39, taking them past the winning line with a calculative assault on the opposition bowlers.

With this win, GT have moved to the top of the points table. They have now won 6 out of 8 matches.
