India head coach Gautam Gambhir is trending on social media for his recent remarks against Delhi Capitals' owner Parth Jindal. After the series win over South Africa, Gambhir addressed reporters, where he took a dig at the DC owner for his split coaching suggestion.
After India's red-ball whitewash at home, Jindal, who is a passionate sports fan, took to Twitter to slam Gambhir's coaching, urging for a split coaching in Indian cricket. This remark didn't go well with the current Indian head coach.
The battle is intensifying on social media but very few know that the two were on positive terms back in 2018 and Jindal had great fondness for the current Indian coach.
When Gautam Gambhir gave up IPL 2018 salary
Meanwhile, it is worth noting that Gambhir's and Jindal's association goes a long way back. It was 2018 when Parth Jindal entered IPL and took 50% ownership in the Capitals from the GMR group.
Hoping for a turnaround of things, Delhi Capitals, under the co-ownership of Parth Jindal, brought Gautam Gambhir back from KKR. Gambhir started his career with DC, moved to KKR and helped the franchise from the east win two titles.
For IPL 2018, KKR had released Gambhir, and the Delhi Capitals brought the southpaw for 2.80 crores at the auction. Further, the Capitals also appointed Gautam as their captain. However, the decision backfired as the Capitals got off to the worst possible start.
Notably, Delhi lost five of its first six matches, eventually leading to Gautam Gambhir leaving the captaincy midway. Interestingly, for the unversed, Gambhir was deeply affected by the team's underwhelming performance and also gave up his salary of 2.8 crores to help the team.
