Ellyse Perry escaped with a reprieve for the ages in the final league fixture of the 2025-26 Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) at the North Sydney Oval in Sydney. Batting on 91* off 59 balls in the 17th over of the Sydney Sixers innings against Adelaide Strikers spinner Amanda-Jade Wellington, Perry chopped one on to the stumps, only for her furniture to remain undeterred.

The legendary Australian all-rounder and Sydney Sixers opener made the most of her escape as she got to her third WBBL century, cracking 111 off 71 balls with 16 boundaries and three huge sixes as the hosts mounted 173-4 in 20 overs.

Ellyse Perry attempted a fierce cut shot off Adelaide Strikers spinner Amanda-Jade Wellington in the 17th over of the Sydney Sixers innings in match 40 of the WBBL 2025-26 season. However, the 35-year-old merely got a hard inside edge as she chopped the ball on to her stumps.

As it turned out, her stumps refused to budge, gifting Ellyse Perry a slice of cricketing luck so rare it bordered on the surreal.

Surprised by her lucky escape, the Sydney Sixers opener motored from 91* (59) to 111 (71) by the end of her innings to chart her third T20 century (all in WBBL) as her team reached a daunting 173-4 in 20 overs. Ellyse Perry’s opening partner Sophia Dunkley also bludgeoned a swift 40-ball 54 with nine boundaries as the duo started off with a huge 141-run partnership in 16 overs.

In response, Sydney Sixers fast bowler Lauren Cheatle and senior spinner Ashleigh Gardner picked up two wickets each to restrict Adelaide Strikers to 172-7 in a nerve-wrecker as the hosts secured a thrilling one-run win to finish at number two on the WBBL 2025-26 points table.

The Ellyse Perry-starrer Sydney Sixers will now face either Perth Scorchers or Melbourne Stars in the Challenger duel on December 11.
