On Sunday, December 7, the Sydney Sixers faced the Adelaide Strikers in the 40th T20 match of the Women's Big Bash League at the North Sydney Oval. It was a crucial game for both teams eyeing a playoff berth.
Perry's century seals the deal for Sydney Sixers
The match resulted in a thriller as the Sixers sealed a one-run win to go past the Strikers and seal their berth for the playoffs. It was an Ellyse Perry show as the former Sixers captain opened the innings and slammed a brilliant century.
Ellyse Perry amassed 111 (71), which featured 16 fours and three sixes. Perry struck the ball at 156.34 and helped her side put 173/4 on the board. It was the Australian star's third century in WBBL history. The Strikers had a chance to dismiss Perry early on in the innings, but her dismissal was ruled out because of a no-ball when the right-handed batter was playing on 65.
The luck was on Perry's side as she could have returned to the pavillion when batting on 91 as the ball hit the stumps, but the bails didn't come off.
Ellyse Perry having a WBBL season to remember
As usual, it has been a great season for the 35-year-old as the star all-rounder has scored 383 runs in nine innings, averaging 54.71, and striking the ball at 141.85. Her campaign has featured two fifty-plus scores and a century, too, at the right time when it mattered.
Even with the ball, Perry has not been bowling regularly but has two wickets to her name in five innings. Meanwhile, the Sydney Sixers will now play their playoff game on December 11, and their opponent is yet to be decided.
