West Indies: 306/10 in 49.5 overs [Brandon King- 64, Charles- 63; Zahoor- 3/44 (9.5), Aayan- 2/45 (10)] beat UAE: 228/7 in 50 overs [Naseer- 57, Hameed- 49; Kavem- 2/46 (8), Chase- 2/49(10)] by 78 runs

Following the dominating win in the First ODI, West Indies beat the United Arab Emirates in the Second ODI by 78 runs, taking a 2-0 unbeatable lead in the three-match ODI series at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium in Sharjah.

Odean Smith’s Late Fireworks Help West Indies Go Past 300-run Mark.

After electing to bat first, West Indies got off to a flying start as they managed to score 84 runs in the first 10 overs without any loss of wickets. Johnson Charles was showing no mercy, striking at more than 150 in the powerplay with Brandon King playing the second fiddle to him. The duo went onto add 129 runs for the first wicket with Charles falling soon after completing his half century.

King also completed his half century soon after the wicket of Charles but similarly could not continue and departed after a decent 64. The hosts managed to make a comeback into the game where once it seemed like 350 was on the cards when both the openers were batting. Scoring was not as easy as before with UAE spinners keeping it tight and wickets falling at a regular intervals.

The 300-run mark was far away for the men in maroon with wickets falling regularly at one end. However, it was Odean Smith's cameo of a 24-ball 37 at the frag end of the innings that made sure West Indies get past the 300-run mark. Aayan Afzal Khan bowled another superb spell, taking two scalps. UAE allowed only 56 runs in the last ten overs of the innings with Zahoor Khan and Sanchit Sharma superb in the death overs.

Ali Naseer’s Half Century In Vain

Chasing 307, UAE got off to a poor start as they could manage just 38 runs on the board and lost both of their openers in the powerplay. UAE needed a partnership badly to rebuild the innings but West Indies spinners were all over the hosts. Vriitya Aravind tried his best to hold one end but fell just before the halfway mark with UAE five down and only 96 on the board.

Basil Hameed alongside the hero from the First ODI, Ali Naseer, tried to rebuild the innings. Naseer continued from where he left in the last match and was not shying away from playing his shots. The duo went on to add 80 runs for the 6th wicket as Hameed fell one short of a half century.

Naseer kept going from the other end and completed another half century, in only his second ODI. Unfortunately, the game was lost way before and Naseer departed while trying to keep up with the asking rate. West Indies won by a whopping 78 runs and went 2-0 up in the three-match ODI series.
