Throughout his illustrious career, Virat Kohli has broken many records and has etched his name in the history books with his stupendous batting performances. The India legend idolises Sachin Tendulkar and on this day, 6 years ago, he broke his idol's long-standing ODI record.

When Virat Kohli was in the league of his own

In terms of runs, Tendulkar remained the fastest to 10,000 ODI runs for a long period of time, before Kohli entered the frame, and 6-years ago, he surpassed Tendulkar to become the fastest batter to smash 10,000 ODI runs.

He achieved this feat in just 205 innings, while the legendary Tendulkar needed 259 innings to reach to the milestone. He achieved the magnificent milestone during an ODI game against the West Indies in 2018, where the then ODI skipper smacked a brilliant 157* off 129 deliveries and became the 12th batter overall to achieve the landmark.

Interestingly, the year 2018 was special for Kohli as an ODI batter, as he reached the 1,000 run-mark in just 11 innings, showcasing his prowess in the 50-over format.

Courtesy of Kohli's class, India posted 320/6 on the board, however, West Indies made a match out of it as the game ended in a tie.

Kohli always chases Tendulkar's records

During the 2023 World Cup semi-finals Vs New Zealand, Kohli achieved the unthinkable and surpassed Tendulkar's ODI century tally. He scored his 50th ODI century and became the first man on the planet to achieve the feat.

Also, Kohli currently has 80 international centuries and need 21 more to break Sachin's record of 100 international tons, a feat which looks difficult to achieve. Currently, the former skipper is taking part in the Test series against New Zealand, a series which is a part of the WTC cycle.
