South Africa's pace spearhead, Kagiso Rabada etched his name in the record books once again as he claimed his 15th five-wicket haul in Tests, but this one bore special significance—it was his first on Asian soil. The landmark achievement came against Bangladesh on Day 4 of the first Test at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur, Dhaka. Rabada's fiery spell was a crucial factor in putting South Africa within touching distance of victory.

Rabada's Five-Wicket Haul in Asia Propels South Africa Closer to Victory in Dhaka

Kagiso Rabada was on fire from the word go, dismantling Bangladesh's top order with precision and pace. The Proteas’ ace pacer struck in regular intervals, sending the Bangladeshi batters back to the pavillion like ninepins.

With the hosts tottering under pressure, it seemed only a matter of time before Rabada picked up his fifth wicket. But as fate would have it, he had to wait a little longer.

Day 4 brought with it a chance for Rabada to bag his well-deserved fifth wicket. And it didn’t take long. On just the third ball of the day, Rabada bowled a good-length delivery that nipped back sharply into Nayeem Hasan, hitting him low on the pads.

The umpire had no hesitation in raising his finger, and Nayeem's dismissal left Rabada with his first five-wicket haul in Asia.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz Resists but Falls Short Off Hundred

Rabada wasn’t done yet. With the final Bangladesh batter, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, waging a lone battle, Rabada delivered yet again to close the chapter on Bangladesh’s innings.

Miraz, who fought valiantly and was just three runs short of a memorable hundred, fell prey to Rabada's relentless line and length.

His dismissal meant that South Africa needed only 106 runs to seal victory in the first Test, a target well within reach.

Reaching the Milestone of 300 Test Wickets

Rabada's stellar performance in Mirpur also marked another monumental achievement—his entry into the elite 300-wicket club in Test cricket. On Day 1, the Proteas pacer became the 39th bowler in history and only the sixth South African to reach the 300-wicket milestone.

Notably, he achieved this feat in his 65th Test, placing him joint-10th among all bowlers and joint-seventh among pacers to reach the landmark.

Rabada’s achievement is all the more impressive when considering the speed at which he reached 300 wickets. He needed just 11,817 deliveries to reach the mark, making him the quickest in terms of balls bowled, surpassing the great Waqar Younis by a margin of 785 deliveries.

This accomplishment adds another feather to Rabada's already illustrious cap, underlining his reputation as one of the finest fast bowlers of this era.
