Team India’s all-rounder Nitish Reddy had a day to remember at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) on Saturday, December 27. Under the pressure of a Boxing Day Test against Australia, he scored his maiden international century and made good on a heartfelt promise he’d made to his father years ago.
Nitish Reddy Fulfilled His Heartfelt 2018 Promise To Make His Dad Proud
Back in 2018, Nitish Reddy had posted a touching Father’s Day message that read, "My dad has sacrificed so many things for me, but one day I will make him proud." That promise became reality as he raised his bat to acknowledge the applause at the MCG.
It was the culmination of years of hard work and sacrifices, proving that dedication and belief can move mountains. A Test hundred is never served on a silver platter, and Nitish’s knock was no different.
Batting in the nervous 90s is enough to give anyone the jitters, and Nitish had his share of tense moments. But he showed great composure and held his ground and kept his eyes on the prize.
His celebrations were just as memorable. He brought up his maiden Test fifty in Pushpa style, a move that thrilled fans and lit up social media. But Nitish wasn’t about to stop there. He kept his head down, batted with maturity, and reached his hundred off 171 balls, a knock filled with grit and character.
Consistent In The Border-Gavaskar Trophy
This innings wasn’t a one-off. Nitish has been one of India’s most reliable players in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy. In the first Test, Nitish scored 41 and an unbeaten 38, helping India to a massive 295-run victory. In the second Test in Adelaide, he stood tall with two gritty knocks of 42 each, even though India lost by 10 wickets.
However, in the 3rd Test, it was a rare failure for Nitish as he managed just 16 runs, but it didn’t dent his confidence. In the ongoing Tess, he proved once again why he’s such a valuable asset, anchoring India’s innings and keeping the team alive in the contest.
At stumps on Day 3, India are 358/9 in response to Australia’s first-innings total of 474. Nitish’s knock has given the Indian team a fighting chance.
