The Asia Cup 2025 is fast approaching and India’s campaign is shaping up to be a blockbuster. The Men in Blue kick off their Group A journey on September 10 against UAE in Dubai, lock horns with arch-rivals Pakistan on September 14 at the same venue and wrap up their group stage against Oman in Abu Dhabi on September 19.
Jasprit Bumrah Couldn’t Play But Still Lifted India’s Spirits in Asia Cup 2022
This time, there is an added edge as India’s pace spearhead, Jasprit Bumrah will be in action. But rewind three years and the story was very different.
In 2022, Bumrah’s back injury came like a bolt from the blue. The nation’s go-to death-overs wizard was ruled out of the Asia Cup, leaving fans and the dressing room a little short of breath.
Still, true to his calm persona, Bumrah took to Twitter ahead of the IND vs PAK match to rally behind his mates, writing:
“Sending my best wishes #TeamIndia’s way! Looking forward to an exciting tournament of cricket.”
Despite watching from the sidelines, he came up with words of encouragement that showed he is as much a team man off the field as he is on it.
Bhuvi And Co. Step Up To Fill The Void
Without Bumrah, it was Bhuvneshwar Kumar who shouldered the pace attack. His spell of 4/26 against Pakistan was a masterclass in control and cunning. Hardik Pandya chipped in with three wickets, Arshdeep Singh grabbed a couple and Avesh Khan took one as Pakistan were bundled out for just 147.
The chase wasn’t without its hiccups, but India got home with five wickets and two balls to spare. It was a night when the bowlers made sure the absence of their strike weapon didn’t sting too much.
Coming to the present and the tables have turned. Bumrah is fit, firing and ready to lead the charge in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. The memories of 2022 only add more weight to his return. This time, the roars will come from the middle, ball in hand. And if the stars align, we might just see Bumrah light up the Asia Cup 2025 the way only he can.
