The latest reports will come as a relief for the Indian fans. The pace spearhead of the team, Jasprit Bumrah is expected to play in the upcoming Asia Cup.
As reported by PTI, the selection committee headed by Ajit Agarkar will announce the squad on August 19 or 20. It depends on when the Centre of Excellence's Sports Science Team sends in the fitness bulletin of all the players including that of India's T20I skipper, Suryakumar Yadav.
Tussle For The Vice-Captaincy Role
Notably, Axar Patel was the vice-captain of the team when they last played a T20I match. But as per these lates claims, Shubman Gill is all set to make a return to the format after his brilliant show in England with the bat. Furthermore, given the leadership credentials of Shubman Gill from the tour, he could be considered for the role of vice-captaincy.
Some speculations earlier claimed that, Hardik Pandya is also in the race to the be the vice-captain of India in the T20I format. But as it stands now, the selection committee is primarily looking at two candidates in Gill and Axar.
Bumrah's Workload Management Issue
The report of Jasprit Bumrah playing in the Asia Cup 2025 comes as huge relief to both the Indian management and the ICT fans. There have been lot of discussions regarding the workload management of the pacer. Given his unique bowling action and proneness to injury, there had been talks around whether the MI pacer will play in the Asia Cup.
But as it seems that India have decided that their best bowler should be a part of the preparatory stages for the upcoming T20 World Cup. The 'Men in Blue' are currently eyeing their third consecutive ICC Trophy and will also be eager to defend their title. So, it is a given that Bumrah will be a part of the squad that is announced for the marquee tournament. Hence, it is better that he actively stays in the preparatory stages.
