The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 has been a story of two extremes: experienced players have scored bucketloads of runs, while youngsters have struggled to milk runs in friendly conditions. However, former England international Kevin Pietersen has advised young Indian batters to follow Mahendra Singh Dhoni's mantra for success.

Dhoni, 41, is currently leading table-toppers Chennai Super Kings with five wins and two losses. Pietersen, after watching Royal Challengers Bangalore's young recruits make a mess of their chase despite having a great start against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) target of 201.

Speaking to Star Sports, the former Rising Pune Super Giants player explained how Dhoni, while chasing targets of 200 and beyond, took the game to the very end and did not try to finish it quickly.

Here's what Pietersen said

"When you are chasing 200, you have got to take the game deep. How many times does MS Dhoni, the king of the chase, always used to say take the game deep, get to the 18th over, 19th over, 20th over. What's happening now in the chase, these guys are seeing 200 and they are trying to win it in the 12th or the 13th over,

"The bowlers are under tremendous pressure and I think that's what Virat Kohli was trying to do this evening. Unfortunately, he got caught by a spectacular catch. That's the nature of the game."

During IPL 2023, Dhoni can be seen having animated conversations with youngsters from every franchise after the completion of the match, irrespective of the result.

CSK will be in action tonight when they take on hosts Rajasthan Royals (RR) at Jaipur, who are placed third in the table with eight points.
