Rohit 'Hitman' Sharma created history as he became the first man in the game to bag three ODI double-centuries to his name back on December 13, 2017. Mohali witnessed the greatness of the showman who obliterated Sri Lanka's attacks with his crafty boundaries and quick doubles.

Rohit was modest with the knocks in his innings. Playing at a strike rate that never went above 100. Yet, there was magic, there was grit in his game that led the whole crowd in Mohali stand up to their feet and give him a standing ovation as he celebrated his double ton by kissing his wedding ring, dedicating the feat to his wife Ritika, who was in tears in the stands.

While it was a emotional moment for Rohit and his wife, it remains one of the most remarkable feats achieved by any cricketer in the world. With the primary feat being the sole man to achieve 3 double tons, let's take a look at what other records Rohit Sharma broke on that day.

1) Only player in history to score 3 double centuries in ODIs

Rohit Sharma became the only player to score three double centuries in the history of the game. Rohit scored 209 against Australia in 2013, 264 against Sri Lanka in 2014 and 208 against Sri Lanka in 2017. All other batters, including the likes of legendary Sachin Tendulkar, Martin Guptill, and Virender Sehwag, have only one double century in the format.

2) 2nd player to make a double century as captain

Notably, Rohit Sharma was also captaining India's side in the 3rd ODI against Sri Lanka in 2017 when he made his double ton. This helped him gain a rare feat as he became the second man in history to rack up a double century in ODIs while captaining the side after Virender Sehwag's 219 in 2011.

3) Having the joint-most 150+ scores in ODIs

Rohit Sharma’s unbeaten 208 marked his fifth score of 150 or more in ODI cricket, drawing him level at the time with Sachin Tendulkar and David Warner. Since then, he has gone on to set himself apart, now standing alone at the top with a record eight 150-plus scores in the format.

4) Most sixes by an India captain in a single ODI innings

Rohit Sharma etched his name into the record books by smashing 12 sixes, the most ever hit by an Indian captain in a single ODI innings, surpassing the previous joint mark of seven sixes held by Sourav Ganguly and Virender Sehwag.

He also continues to own the overall Indian record for most sixes in an ODI innings, having struck 16 maximums during his iconic 209 against Australia in Bengaluru in 2013, a feat achieved before he took over the captaincy.

5) India posts 100th score of 300 or more in ODIs

India reached a historic landmark in Mohali on December 13, 2017, when their 392 for 4 against Sri Lanka became the team’s 100th instance of scoring 300 or more runs in ODI cricket, a first for any nation.

This landmark total was achieved under captain Rohit Sharma, during the second ODI of the series between Sri Lanka, which the team went on to win by 141 runs.
