On the 12th of August, 2021, the Lord's Cricket Ground witnessed one of the most gutsy and resilient knocks by an Indian opener in Test cricket. It was the second Test of the India tour of England 2021, where KL Rahul came up with an iconic knock.

KL Rahul set the platform for India's win

The two teams came into this game after the first Test ended in a draw. Both India and England had the golden opportunity to take a lead in the series. Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul set the tone for India with 126 runs stand for the opening wicket. Even after the dismissal, KL Rahul continued his knock and scored 129 runs off 250 deliveries. It was a gracious and gritty knock decorated with 12 fours and one maximum.

Carried by KL's knock, India posted 364 runs in their first innings. In reply, Joe Root played a classic knock of 180 runs and took England past the Indian total, posting 391. In the second innings, India once again put in a decent batting show and posted 298/8 before the innings was declared by Virat Kohli. It was Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumrah's heroics that helped set a target of 272 runs in the final innings.

After a brilliant show with the ball in the first innings, Mohammed Siraj once again stepped with the ball in the second innings. He led the charge for the Indian team picking up four wickets once more. The last innings of England was restricted to just 120 as they lost the game by 151 runs.
