The franchises of the Indian Premier League are gearing up for the 17th edition of the tournament. A mega-auction is slated ahead of IPL 2025, which might change a lot of team equations and compositions. We might see a few players getting introduced into this landscape while a few veteran of the game might not get teams any more.

Before the teams chalk out their auction strategies and hunt down players for the perfect roles in their squads, in this article we take a look at three big names of Indian cricket who might go unsold in the mega auction ahead of IPL 2025.

3. Mayank Agarwal

The Indian international's IPL career has gradually faded off. In IPL 2024, Mayank Agarwal was seen playing only four games. In these four matches, Agarwal scored 64 runs at a strike rate of 112.28. With the T20 cricket evolving, this can be considered a below par strike rate and it was evident from the fact that SRH management decided to bench him for most of the tournament. With Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head cementing their spots as SRH openers, there are little chances that the franchise will look to retain Mayank Agarwal. Thus, once released, it looks like none of the teams might bid for the Indian batter.

2. Shikhar Dhawan

The left-handed opening batter is considered one of the legends of the Indian Premier League. However, in the last couple of years, Shikhar Dhawan has lost his relevancy in the league. He has missed games due to injury in both the editions and hence the PBKS management might look ahead of Dhawan in the upcoming edition. One of the major problems with Shikhar has also been his decreasing strike rate. With the franchises looking for explosive batters at the top, the teams might ignore Dhawan during the mega-auction ahead of IPL 2025.

1.Ajinkya Rahane

The Indian batter has been a part of multiple franchises in the Indian Premier League. His latest stint in the league was with the Chennai Super Kings. After his stint with KKR, Ajinkya Rahane had a good start with CSK. He performed to the extents where he was recalled to the national team ahead of the last WTC final. However, in the IPL 2024, Rahane failed to deliver as per expectation in most of the games. It is a given that CSK will not be retaining 'Jinx' for the upcoming season and given his recent performances in the format, Rahane might be ignored in the mega-auction ahead of IPL 2025.
