Queensland speedster Michael Neser has expressed his disappointment of being overlooked from Australia’s squad for the upcoming Ashes series in England. The cricketer was also excluded from the touring party of India, despite picking up five wickets in his last Test appearance back in December 2022.

Neser also finished the recently-concluded Sheffield Shield tournament as its second-highest wicket-taker. The 33-year-old collected 40 wickets in the season for Queensland, with two five-wicket hauls to his name.

Michael Neser disappointed but optimistic about future

Michael Neser’s exclusion from the Ashes squad left many surprised within the Australian cricketing fraternity, considering his recent track record with the ball. The pacer too was left disappointed; however, he is still optimistic of a comeback in the future.

While speaking to The Courrier Mail, he claimed that he had a conversation with chief selector and former Australian captain George Bailey, who assured him of a possible call-up in the middle of the five-Test long English tour. Neser said:

“I was really disappointed at the start but I had a very good conversation with George Bailey and he was pretty clear about where I stand. He told me it’s a long tour and they can bring me in at any stage depending on conditions. At least I am over here and playing cricket. That is a positive.”

Neser is currently in England for the ongoing County Championship. Representing Glamorgan in Division Two, the pacer collected two wickets in his first appearance of the season.

Meanwhile, the 2023 Ashes series is set to take off on June 16 in Birmingham, i.e., shortly after Australia’s WTC title clash against India at The Oval.
