Virat Kohli is set to grace India’s Test jersey once again through the upcoming two-match series against Bangladesh. The series marks India’s first set of Test fixtures in more than six months, as they restart their 2023-25 WTC campaign in a bid to qualify for the next year’s grand finale.
Moreover, the impending fixtures also serve Virat Kohli’s return to the Test arena after he opted himself out of India’s home series against England earlier this year to attend the birth of his second child.
Celebrating the return of the legendary Indian cricketer to the game’s most revered format, here at OneCricket, we take a look at Virat Kohli’s performance the last time he stepped out into the field for a Test match.
When Virat Kohli last played a Test match
Back in December 2023, Virat Kohli toured South Africa along with the rest of his Indian teammates for a short two-match series. In the first Test played out in SuperSport Park at Centurion, the legendary Indian batter punched out scores of 38 and 76 across both innings. Unfortunately, Team India lost the match by an innings and 32 runs to concede an early lead to the hosts.
In the series-deciding second Test, Kohli compounded 58 runs in both innings on a hostile Newlands surface in Cape Town. The 35-year-old made 12 of those runs during India’s successful 79-run pursuit on Day 3 to bring the two-match series to levelling terms.
A month later, Virat Kohli opted himself out of India’s five-match home series against the visiting Englishmen to attend the birth of his second child.
Virat Kohli Ready For Test return
Virat Kohli will be making his return to the Test arena after a gap of more than nine months through the upcoming two-match series against Bangladesh. The first Test will be hosted by the iconic Chepauk Stadium in Chennai between September 19 and September 23.
Kohli is currently in Chennai alongside his teammates as they prepare themselves to get back into Test groove.
