A gate at the Sydney Cricket Ground was recently introduced in honor of Sachin Tendulkar, a celebrated Indian cricketer, to commemorate his 50th birthday.

During his career, Tendulkar played five Tests at the SCG and scored 785 runs, including three centuries and a top score of 241 not out in 2004. He stated that this was his preferred cricket ground outside of India and boasted an average of 157.

"The Sydney Cricket Ground has been my favourite ground away from India. I have had some great memories at the SCG right from my first tour of Australia in 1991-92," said Tendulkar said in a statement as per SCG.

The gates bearing the names of Sachin Tendulkar and Brian Lara were revealed by Rod McGeoch, the Chairman of SCG and Venues NSW, Kerrie Mather, the CEO of SCG and Venues NSW, and Nick Hockley, the CEO of Cricket Australia.

"It is a great honour to have the gates used by all visiting cricketers to access the field of play at the SCG named after me and my good friend Brian," Tendulkar added.

To also celebrate 30 years since Brian Lara's iconic innings of 277 at the Sydney Cricket Ground, a gate bearing his name was also revealed alongside Sachin Tendulkar's gate. This honors the West Indian cricket legend's remarkable achievement and contribution to the sport.

Cricket Australia CEO Nick Hockley appreciated the duo and talked about the significance of their achievements to both the international players as well as the generations to come. He said:

"As the cricketing world celebrates Sachin Tendulkar’s 50th birthday, this is a fitting and timely gesture by the SCG to recognise Sachin and Brian Lara as two legends of the international game with exceptional records at the SCG. Their feats will no doubt be an inspiration to not only visiting international teams, but all players fortunate enough to walk onto the hallowed turf of the Sydney Cricket Ground, for generations to come.”
