'Difficult to Digest' KKR Skipper Nitish Rana After a 49-Run Defeat to CSK

Kolkata Knight Riders skipper Nitish Rana cut a sorry figure at the post-match presentation after his team suffered yet another morale crushing defeat, in front of a packed Eden Gardens, courtesy this time of the Chennai Super Kings.

It was a similar story for KKR as their bowlers travelled courtesy of some brilliant hitting from Ajinkya Rahane & co, and their top-4, including skipper Rana, once again failed to turn up.

The game was, however, lost in the first half when the Knight Riders conceded 235 runs, and Rana admitted in the post-match interview, that its "tough to digest" how his bowlers ended up conceding so many runs.

However, the southpaw gave due credit to Rahane, who gobsmacked everyone with his inventive, unhinged strokeplay, leaving the KKR bowlers searching for answers while gasping for their breadth.

Rahane smashed 6 fours and 5 sixes to race his way to a 29-ball 71*, and Shivam Dube provided him ideal company by cracking a 21-ball 50.

A target as huge as 236 was always going to be a mountainous task, especially considering KKR's non-existent top-order.

And, it proved to be the same script as the two-time champs were soon 70/4 in the 9th over. Jason Roy and then Rinku Singh tried their best, but as Rana mentioned in the interview, the game was already lost when they failed to cash in on the powerplay.

Here's what Nitish Rana said:

"Tough to digest. Always going to be difficult chasing 236 especially if you don't have a good powerplay. Have to give credit to Rahane. As I said, it's tough to digest that we conceded a score like that. We do have some positives. But if you don't improve. If you keep repeating mistakes against such a big team, you'll lose."

Thanks to Sunday's 49-run drubbing, KKR have now lost 4 in a row, and they find themselves reeling at the 10th spot in the points table, which is now headed by CSK.

They will next face one of the two teams they have managed to beat- RCB- on April 26th.
