Mumbai's cricket prodigy, Shreyas Iyer, discovered the flip side of fame and fortune after his eye-catching performance in the 2015 Indian Premier League (IPL) auction. The young batter, who was secured by Delhi Daredevils for a staggering Rs 2.6 crore, witnessed a sudden change in the behavior of people around him, particularly in his interactions with a familiar girl.

Speaking candidly on the Season One finale of the talk show "Open House with Renil," Iyer shared his revelation about the impact of money on relationships. He recounted how a girl, whom he had known before his IPL success, suddenly became overly friendly with him after the auction. When questioned about her sudden interest, Iyer discovered that she was drawn to his newfound wealth rather than his personal connection.

'Before the IPL, the girls who I used to message didn't care to reply. After the IPL, the same girls started messaging me every day. After that I stopped talking to them.'

This experience opened his eyes to the superficial nature of some relationships, emphasizing how people's attitudes can change when wealth and fame enter the picture.

Before the IPL, Iyer faced indifference from girls he messaged, but post-auction, the same individuals began reaching out to him regularly. Recognizing the shift in motives, Iyer made a conscious decision to distance himself from such superficial connections.
