Cricketer Sandeep Lamichhane has been handed an eight-year prison sentence by the Kathmandu District Court in connection with a rape case. The decision was delivered by Judge Shishir Raj Dhakal on a single bench. Following Lamichhane's guilty verdict on December 29, the court convened today to determine his sentence.

The cricketer was accused of taking advantage of the financial vulnerability of the victim, leading to the rape incident. The case, initially filed in October 2022, involved a minor, but the court concluded that the victim, identified as Gaushala 26, had reached the age of 18.

Despite the victim's legal adult status, the court maintained Lamichhane's guilt, asserting that the rape was proven. The verdict was based on the violation of Section 219 (1, 2, and 3) (e) of the Civil Code 2074, as the court deemed the act non-consensual.

This sentencing marks a significant development in the legal proceedings against the cricketer, adding a new chapter to his career and personal life. Lamichhane, a well-known figure in cricket, now faces an eight-year prison term as a consequence of the court's decision on the disturbing case.
