  • Geoff Lawson Raises Eyebrows Over Daniel Vettoris Role As Australias Assistant Coach

What's his input here ...: Geoff Lawson on Daniel Vettori's role as Australia's assistant coach

The ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2023 has been a struggle for the Australian side, where they trail the four-Test series 0-2 against host India. Across both Tests — Nagpur and Delhi — despite being on spin-friendly tracks, the visiting spinners could not cage Indian batters.

Former Australian player Geoff Lawson has now raised doubts over former New Zealand captain Daniel Vettori's role as an assistant coach. Vettori joined Andrew McDonald's support staff back in May last year and was part of Australia's Test series win over Pakistan in their backyard.

Speaking to SEN Radio, Lawson said the former RCB player has been unable to provide the likes of Nathon Lyon, Todd Murphy, and Matthew Kuhnemann with valuable inputs.

Interestingly, Vettori's Test record in India is poor, picking up 31 wickets at an average of 44.77.

Here's what Lawson said

"The man who's probably not copping as much as he should is Daniel Vettori, who is one of the great left-arm orthodox bowlers in the world, but he should be advising on how we're going to bowl and how we're going to play against that sort of bowling.

He seems to have escaped a bit of attention here because when I see shots of the dressing room I think, 'What's Vettori's input here, he's the man who was a great slow ball'. He should perhaps be having more input than most."

India will look to win the third Test beginning March 1 in Indore and confirm themselves a place in the final of the World Test Championship at the Oval.
