The furor around KL Rahul's place in India's playing XI is reaching a crescendo with former players Venkatesh Prasad and Aakash Chopra engaging in the social media debate.

Rahul has been going through a rough patch across formats, however, coach Rahul Dravid and captain Rohit Sharma have continuously backed the Karnataka-born to come good, leaving out an in-form Shubman Gill

Former India opener Krishnamachari Srikkanth has now given his views on Rahul, saying that if he was the chief selector, he would have asked the 30-year-old batter to take a break.

Rahul in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2023 has scored just 38 runs and was dropped as Indian vice-captain for the final two Tests.

Speaking to the Times of India, the 1983 World Cup winner asserted that Gill should play the Indore Test.

Here's what Srikkant said

“I have tremendous admiration for the class of Rahul, in fact I call him Rolls Royce Rahul… but it is just not happening for him at the moment. If I was the chairman of selectors, I would have gone up to him and told him to take a break for a while.

But with all due respect to Rahul, it is time to play Shubman Gill. You can’t keep a player waiting when he is in the form of his life,"

The explosive opener further explained that Rahul's lack of form has more to do with his mental approach than technical discrepancies.

As per several reports, India will most likely bring in Gill for Rahul in the third Test, which begins on March 1 at Holkar Stadium.
