England bowler James Anderson has been re-writing history in Test cricket lately. On Wednesday, Anderson became the oldest player to claim the number-one ranking in bowling, bettering Australia's Clarrie Grimmett record-set way back in 1936.

The fast bowler will be in action on Friday in his 179th Test when England clashes against New Zealand in the second match in Wellington. Skipper Ben Stokes ahead of the encounter hailed Anderson's hunger for cricket.

With 682 Test scalps, Anderson could become the third bowler after the late Shane Warne and Muttiah Muralitharan to breach the 700-wicket mark.

As per ESPN Cricinfo, Stokes stated that Anderson is relentless and wants to pick wickets whenever he has the ball.

Here's what Stokes said

"Albeit him being 40, I just can't see him stopping. Every time he turns out there he's one of the main guys you throw the ball to when you feel like you need a wicket. He's just relentless with everything that he does. We're very lucky to have him. Rightfully so he's back at the top. I know sometimes those rankings don't mean much to people, but in our opinion he has been one of he best, if not the best, for longer what these rankings say."

New Zealand skipper Tim Southee also praised Anderson's longevity in Tests, where the swing bowler is continuously raising the bar.

England won the Mount Maunganui Test last week and led the series 1-0.
